RI Other Information of Interest
To become a notary in Rhode Island you need to be a resident of the state of Rhode Island as well as a registered voter.

It is not required for Rhode Island notaries to identify signers, although it is recommended.

A Marine Protest is a notary act that may be unique to Rhode Island, and this state has a separate fee for this particular notary act.

Acknowledgment Information
To properly notarize a document by taking an Acknowledgment, you must fill in all spaces in a preprinted acknowledgement form; sign your name as it is written on your commission; and print your name, the words Notary Public and your expiration date. If the document has no preprinted acknowledgement verbiage, then a loose certificate must be provided.

Dual State commission information
If you are a Massachusetts notary and Massachusetts resident or a Connecticut notary who is a Connecticut resident, you can not get a dual commission in Rhode Island. However Rhode Island residents might be able to get Connecticut or Massachusetts Notary Commissions.
