Borrower not home? - The 7 minute rule.
A smart notary always confirms an appointment before they start driving. Its smart to confirm at least a few hours ahead of time if possible. But, people don't always answer their phone, and they aren't always home. Lets say you call, and nobody answers, and then you drive to the borrower's home - and they don't answer the door. Uh oh! Apply the seven minute rule. (sounds like a Seinfeld episode). Wait for seven minutes and then try knocking at the door, and calling. This allows them to have enough time for them to finish their business in the bathroom if they are indeed there. If there is still no response, call the lender, tell them how long you are waiting, and ask them what to do. At this point it makes sense to start driving, and call
after another five minutes from the road. Sometimes people are late coming home because they got stuck in traffic. Perhaps their cell phone was off, and they will appreciate all of your unsuccessful attempts to reach them. Signing companies will appreciate it if you make every effort you can to save "Their" loan.
