Tip: Hospital signings

When taking a hospital signing, its best to confirm that the signer has the document and ID in their possession and are not drugged.

Patient drugged?
If the signer is drugged to the point where they can not communicate, you need to insist that you get your travel fee up front. After you get your travel fee, you can try to communicate directly with the signer. If they can't communicate, you need to reschedule. If you do not get your travel fee up front, the signer's family will be able to twist your arm into breaking the law by notarizing a signer who is not fit to sign anything.

No ID?
If the signer has an expired ID, or no ID, please refer to our section about credible witnesses.

Signing can't sign their name?
Please visit the hospital section of the tips. The signer can sign by X in many states if you have two subscribing witnesses who witnessed the signing. The subscribing witnesses need to sign the document and the journal and have their name and ID documented too.
