Protest

Here is some sample protest wording. It is advised that protests be issued only under the direction of an attorney since its such an unusual and highly atypical notary act. State of California County of Los Angeles The protest of a notary public, under his or her hand and official seal, of a bill of exchange or promissory note for nonacceptance or nonpayment, specifying any of the following is prima facie evidence of the facts recited therin. (a) The time and place of presentment (b) The fact that presentment was made and the manner thereof (c) The cause or reason for protesting the bill (d) The demand made and the answer given, if any, or the fact that the drawee or acceptor could not be found.

Definition 1:
A protest is an antiquated notary act, but is still done on occasion. A Notary could be asked to protest a non-payment.

Definition 2:
Rhode Island and possibly a few other states have a unique notary act called a Marine Protest where a captain or officer of a ship can document poor weather conditions. This documentation will protect the owner of the ship from claims made by people who he/she has done business with for the particular shipment effected by the inclement weather.

Definition 3:
When a group of people go to a public place to make a public show of disapproving of some government policy, or corporate policy. Some protests are peaceful, while others turn to violence.
