It unbelievable how many other schools have jumped on the bandwagon and are offering classes if you can believe it at $59-$79? This is not Rocket Science!!Many of the 2008 changes involve procedure with police procedures and statues of limitations increasing for Notarial misconduct. These types of changes only come up when you have legal issues and I am sure this is something the great majority of CA Notaries will never need to deal with.

The more important changes in my opinion are: All laws change begin January 1, 2008.

1. Personal Knowledge will no longer be allowed; you must ID everyone.

2. If you don't report a "Change of Address" to the Sec of State in 30 days you will be subject to a $500 fine.

3. One Credible Witness will require ID.

4. You must submit a 2inch by 2 inch picture of yourself when you submit an application to become a CA Notary.

5. Power of Attorney Certificates will now require a thumbprint (I think a CA Notary should fingerprint every client but this is just a personal opinion.)

6. If our Sec of State wants to see a line item in our journal or another item in our journal we have 15 days to respond instead of the previous 30 days to respond.

7. If we don't get a thumbprint in our journal for the necessary documents, the notary is subject to a Civil fine of $2500.

I paraphrased all this and you can get the entire law changes on www.notaryclasses.com.

I can't imagine a CA Notary actually needing a 4 hour class to understand these changes!! Just my opinion and maybe other Notaries disagree?

I have received notices from different CA Notary schools that are giving classes on the new 2008 Notary law changes and this is not necessary.

Just take a look at the home page of www.notaryclasses.com and read the changes that Dan Jones has listed. He has also written a "commentary" on some of the more important changes.
I don't think you don't need to spend money to attend a class to learn of these changes.

There are also free 2008 ACK & JURAT forms to download. Just remember nothing starts until January 1, 2008.

It is ironic. I just got my mail today and I have the same invitation to pay for one of their seminars on these new laws for Jan 2008 :). There may be some things that affect us but they will be posted on the SOS website I am sure when it is time.

Yeah, of course, I did go to the SS website... I just find it unethical that NNA tries to lure people into classes by saying that there is a "NEW" certificate wording for 2008 which actually has been in effect for quite some years now. OK, then, I will not go. Thanks!

TCMUNIZ...the new wording went into affect last year and it is on their website. There are some new laws that are going into affect soon but it will not really effect how we do our jobs. If I remember correctly it will allow them to prosecute notaries for misconduct easier. I will post it here when I find it.

Hi everybody!

I just got this "Bulletin" from the NNA in the mail wanting me to sign up for a class to inform me about the new notary laws. Is there really anything that I need to know? No longer personal knowledge, ok. But what is it about the new certificate wording for jurats and acknowledgements? Couldn't find any new wording on the nna website, nor on the site of the secretary of state. Is this just another money making scheme by the NNA? Looking forward to hearing from you. T.C./Oceanside
