I haven't EVER been asked for one. I never did run out and get one for that matter. I figure that I have the best background check ever from the DOJ that one could ever have as a requirement to be a notary in the State of California. This was just another trick from the NNA if you ask me.

Rick,

I hope you don't think you are a tree. (notree should be notary). If you have been watching the implosion rate of lenders you will have seen that WAMU has imploded and may not be doing much business if any at all lately. I would never give them a background check. I have been asked for one and still flat out refuse to give it up. I have been a signing agent for eleven years and if my companies do not know or trust me by now then I have no use for them. Suffice to say, I still get signings from them regularly.

As far as I know each state has their own protocol on who they commission as notaries. New Hampsire has a background check policy in place. You cannot be a notary without having one done including each time you recertify.

Hi everybody.

My name is Rick, and I am a notree.

Is anyone still getting shook down for background checks? I did the LexisNexis check a while back for Wamu but only had one other company want me to get another one,(of course the one for Wamu was not good enough) as well as a copy of my driving record for 7 years.

NNA made a big production out of this. I see they still sell their background check as a course with a price tag of $150.

In Oregon the Secretary of State did a background check on me before I was commissioned. I can't believe other states do not do this.

My phone keeps ringing, so maybe loan and title companies have "moved on" with respect to notary ID checks.

One hopes...

Rick
