LOL Linda! I feel the same way about dressing up sometimes since I have a huge RURAL population near me (dirt roads, no street signs, chainlink fences and lotsa biggg dogggs). I joke and say that a new pair of rubber flip flops is getting dressed up to some folks.

I dress business casual for signings - but I gotta tell ya - sometimes, considering the condition of the house, I think I could have worn my 'jammies and the borrowers would be none the wiser!!
Had a signing tonight - it was my third meeting with these people - first was for a QC Deed, second a no-sign 'cuz numbers were wrong - I honestly considered jeans tonight - I feel like I know these people by now!! But I was a good girl and wore dress slacks and a blouse/tank combo top (fancy, not beachwear). Thank the heavens I still have work clothes from my prior employment - this is one time that the "one outfit for all" would NOT have worked!!
BTW, have a great, safe holiday everyone....:)

Yikes Joan! I wouldn't call and ratt on the signer - he could be connected (family or otherwise) to the ss and after all, it's the ss's job to follow-up on their signers. I doubt that many do! I get a lot of comments from folks that I sign that tell me about their previous signers - it only makes me look better! Dressing appropriately is easy and if you're broke, all you need is one outfit that you can wear over and over again. It's not rocket science - some are just goober heads. Good post Joan!

refinanced a couple of months ago and the company called me and said the Rider wasn't sent with Deed Of Trust to the county recorder and they needed to send out new docs and the notary would call me.
He called and we set an appt for today and he is the second notary who is absolutely clueless as what to wear.
This notary was about 25-28 years old and wore a work shirt, blue jeans and open toed sandals. He was on his second term as a notary. He also walked in without a briefcase and only his journal and fingerprinting device in his hand. He didn't have a briefcase but walked in with the worst looking notary journal I have seen; I am sure it is just tossed in the trunk.
He knew I was a notary because he called my home phone and the info says to be forwarded to my cell. I asked if he was a loan signer and he said he got a lot of business in 2001-2003 but not much lately. Duh! The other notary 2 years ago arrived in sweat shirt, jeans and tennis shoes, 3 hours late and was in the same age group. She told me it took her over 2 hours to get a loan signed. Another Duh!
This guy was completely clueless why he wasn't getting hired and his appearance sealed his faith. I am still busy all time and its nice to have competition in CA like this notary.
The other notary 3 years ago was dressed the same but she compounded her problem by being 3 hours late!
I don't think loan officers really understand that the appearance of a notary (the only person a borrower's sees in person can make or break a successful signing)
I am going to call the company that sent him and tell them they are not doing himself a favor by sending out a an unprofessional notary. Our image as notaries cannot be left as retired people or bored housewives/etc.
