I can completely understand why Crissy would accept all the work she could get from ND to get experience. It's tough finding someone to mentor you, teach you the ropes and actually show you how to properly notarize documents and present loan docs the right way.
Carmen's point is our reality, however: Companies that pay $40 DO, because THEY CAN.

Here is your first noodle. It is interesting you would even want to admit to what you did. This is a good thing on your part because I think everyone needs to hear both sides. It sounds as though you learned your lesson.
I do not agree with the "get experience" theory. My philosophy is do not do any signings until you have had plenty of practice during your studies of the industry. By that point you will be worth much more than the mind popping fee they offered and you took.
Thank you, Crissy for your candidness.

Hello everyone, I am stepping out here so you can all beat me with a wet noodle! I have been in the lending/title appraisal closing/search field since 1972. two years ago my little company that my money partners thought should be making big bucks in two years went under (as business consultants advised me at the start of the 2nd year and nearing the end of the 2nd year - "you were underfunded in start up - and if they don't put money in along the way to help with your growth - you won't make it) And they didn't and neither did my company. So I decide no more corporate stuff - got my notary - promised from a title company to do all there loans @ $150 a pop. At the time they told me this they had 95 loans in the pipeline - got my act together, went to the company and things changed - those promises were moot. So I called a friend that was a VP of a mortgage banking company and he hooked me up with Nations Direct. Well - ok . .. I need experience on this end. . .I knew all the jargon, how to make loans, but I need to know I'm doing things very very right - I take their orders and bam . . .busy busy $5000 in 6 mths at $40 at pop. . OKAY I SAID YOU COULD ALL BEAT ME WITH A WET NOODLE!!!! I got business going from other companies, I sent Nations a nice email telling them just what us poor notaries have to deal with, how much all this costs us and that after all is said and done there fees mean I am in a whole after I do a job for them! I got one order from them this month and that was only because the borrower remembered me and requested me . . .bet it burned their #@##. I did it for experience and to keep mojo moving. Ok where does the line want to start for my beatings . . .be gentle with me

Can we say sporting event when less seasoned notaries do signings for little to none?

I have been saying this forever. As long as there are folks to do these signing for crappy fees it will never change. We all need to stick together...but don't hold your breath. You have the retired folks that say to me "oh I have nothing better to do; its 50 dollars more than I had to begin with". or the mininium wager that tells me "50.00 is more than I made at my job". They never factor in what the expenses are. It is really sad.

This is just plain crap. Signing companies are cutting fees to seasoned notaries. With our years of experience in the field to do their/our job right is not worth anything. Then they will hire some part- time flunkie with a pen and a seal, do fax backs have them make corrections - bother the borrowers again due to their mistakes, what a waste of time. What is wrong with this industry, seasoned notaries need to stick to their fees and these signing companies should learn where the real value is. When you leave your house for a $45-$50 signing and you calculate the time, taxes and cost of running this business you have made no more that $8.00 an hour. These companies have not reduced there fee to the lender, they are just looking to fatten up their pockets. I will for one stick to my fees and if we all do this signing companies will have to eventually see our value. |
