It may not be true, but needless to say (sigh), I have received three telemarketing calls on my cell phone just in the last two years. I may be able to count them on one hand but they still found their way in.
The rumor about cell numbers being released to telemarketers is not true, and they don't need to be registered on the Do Not Call list. You can read the FTC's rules on cell numbers and confirm this information on their website, here:
Solicitors are required by law to identify themselves. Yes, you certainly are correct when it comes to those lousy recordings--Not that half of them do to start with. Look on your caller ID providing you have one. Nine times out of ten, you will get the solicitor's telephone number. These people are getting harder and harder to pin down but with perserverance you can do it. Just keep those complaints going at the website www.donotcall.gov.
Have you ever been in a signing when a solicitor for a mortgage calls the borrower? With their permission, I have personally put each and every one of those borrowers on the do not call list. I actually started to run out of email addresses to send confirmations to. Having the telephone number 1-888-382-1222 is a blessing in disguise.
I finally registered our home telephone about a week to ten days ago - we were starting to get a bunch of solicitation calls for mortgages - since I registered it we're now getting about five a day!! And they're sneaky - they use pre-recorded messages so you don't even have anyone to yell at!!
In approximately 30 days all cells phone number will be available to solicitors to call and we will get charged for the phone call. Call 1-888-382-1222 and put your number on the DO NOT CALL registry. Use your own cell phone to call. You can also activate by www.donotcall.com
